The THSG Presents The 110 yard Challenge!!!
Last week saw the return of my ever popular free THSG clinics in the shape of the 110 yard challenge. The challenge was played over 9 holes were my pupils would hit the majority of the shots until they are past 110 yards away from the hole. That’s where I came in and finished off the hole showing just how important the short game is too lower scoring. I limited the challenge to just 6 THSG pupils and recorded their scores with their handicaps in mind. I wanted the test to be fair and cover a range of handicaps and also feature results from lady golfers. . I picked out 3 lower handicapped golfers in the shape of Steve Ashmead (12), Robin Craig (12), Rosaleen Harrop (10) and 3 mid to high handicapped golfers who included Wendy Duncan (16) Julie Currie (16) and Gary Mann (20). Before the round I caught up with everyone’s games and not one of the golfers said they were entirely happy with their short game. That really did set up some very intriguing results.
Nothing really prepared us for the amazing results that came in with every pupil shooting well under their handicap. Here are the results from each pupil – Steve Ashmead – 3 under his handicap
Gary Mann - 6 under his handicap
Robin Craig - 2 under his handicap
Ros Harrop - 3 under her handicap
Wendy Duncan - 4 under her handicap
Julie Currie - 2 under her handicap
An average of 3.33 shots under par.
As you can see the results speak for themselves with some of the pupils shooting under par for the first time in a very long time. All 6 pupils commented on how useful the test was showing them the value of sharpening up there short game to reduce their scores. Each pupil went away from Fridays challenge with a renewed confidence that with a bit of hard work and expert help they could clearly reduce their handicap and shoot lower scores more regularly.
